BALTIC Young Photographers Competition

Young photographers are invited to some aspect of Newcastle/Gateshead that they have discovered, and to photograph it for this competition. Photography has the ability to show us secret lives, secret discoveries, to bring an insight into the local life that is unique to you. This could be a brilliant allotment, a group of people who like certain music, a fantastic building that may be overlooked or a weird pet.

Martin Parr (renowned photographer) will select six photographs that he believes work as strong images and connect in interesting ways with the brief given. The six selected photographs will be featured in the October edition of The Journal’s Culture Magazine (available from Tuesday 29 September) as well as exhibited in Quay at BALTIC during Juice, Newcastle/Gateshead’s Festival for Children and Young People, 22 October – 8 November 2009. The finalists will be invited to meet Martin Parr at the VIP preview on Friday 16 October at BALTIC for his major exhibition PARRWORLD and each will receive a signed Martin Parr book. A further selection of photographs will be shown in Quay and on BALTIC’s website during Juice Festival.
