New Opportunity with Changemakers

Changemakers are launching a new opportunity for young leaders, aged 13-19 years old, in the community.  The National Body for Youth Leadership is an innovative opportunity funded by the DCSF to provide young people with training, mentoring, funding and networking opportunities.

Changemakers are hoping to create a Fellowship of young leaders throughout Darlington, Newcastle, Northumberland, North and South Tyneside, Gateshead and Sunderland and are hoping that you would be able to nominate some young people from your project that you feel have demonstrated some form of leadership and would benefit from becoming involved in a national, high profile programme.

The kind of leaders they’re looking for are not necessarily people who are going to be the politicians of the future.  They’re looking for young people who wouldn’t necessarily think of themselves as leaders, who get involved in community activities, take a large amount of responsibility for their families or are captains of a local sports team.

If you’d like to meet up and talk about this more, please get in touch with Herbie at Changemakers on 0191 226 7330 or email herbie@changemakers.org.uk.  There are no entry criteria all we need are young people aged between 13 and 19 who are available to attend a free residential event from Friday 21st August to Monday 24th August.  At the residential the local groups will start planning and developing ideas for a year long programme of activities.  We hope that all young people will stay part of the fellowship for a full year.  For more about the National Body of Youth Leadership and the organisations involved please look at www.nbyl.org.uk

They hope to complete recruitment by the 24th July, so if you could start thinking soon it would be great!

Culture Trail: Innovation Labs

Call for Applications
In partnership with Crossover the Culture Trail Labs are designed to explore and invent new media forms. The labs foster new collaborations between talented and experienced professionals across different creative industries, sparking ideas for innovative media content and services on new, digital platforms.

The Culture Trail Lab is a two-day creative incubator for people based in the North East. It will be devoted to developing projects for new forms of participatory media that will be aimed at engaging young people in culture.

The labs will bring together people from a range of disciplines to invent ideas for content and services for participatory media on new platforms; projects which have real public value, will have significant impact and are sustainable.

Over the two days, participants will work with expert mentors in a series of activities designed to develop conceptual prototypes for groundbreaking interactive projects.

At the end of the two day lab, a number of projects will be selected for further development and given the opportunity to pitch for further investment for a pilot project that can feed into work mapping young people’s engagement with London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games and the Cultural Olympiad.

The labs are aimed at people working in the public sector as well as media, web and creative practitioners.
