Keyfund BLAST

blast

Keyfund Participate NE is running a Keyfund BLAST in the south of the region beginning the 20th February 2012

A BLAST is, in essence, Keyfund in two weeks and includes;

  • “Introduction to Keyfund” training for new facilitators (we are aiming for this to be at a reduced cost)
  • Community Panel Member Training
  • Drop-ins to develop your groups idea and application
  • Group going to Panel to present their project and seek approval to take forward
  • Initial group idea to money reward in two weeks (if required learning has been achieved)
  • A great way to understand the Keyfund process to do more of your own in the future.

Running this BLAST means that the young people you are working with could have a reward for their learning of up to £250, this will aid them to participate in an activity that might have been previously unavailable to them. You need to have a group of young people to go through the BLAST process which will start on the 20th February 2012 with “Introduction to Keyfund” Training at the BBC TYNE TEES, Middlesbrough. The groups idea also needs to engage with one of the four selected projects we run - The North East Youth Network, somewhereto_, Truth About Youth or NE-Generation.

If you are interested or want to know more about this great opportunity please contact our new development worker Michele Deans on mdeansy@yahoo.co.uk or contact Ria at the Unit on 0191 440 4410.

sara rant

Sara came to somewhereto_ desiring opportunities to give talks/speeches on issues which she is passionate about to different selections of audiences. somewhereto_ has managed to get her a slot in the young ranters event last Sunday at the Sage Gateshead which is part of BBC 3′s free thinking festival. Sara attended the event and presented her rant which was based on the newcastle based tv programme called ‘Geordie Shore’ which tends to show Geordies in a negative manner. somewhereto_ host and rap!

SWT_logo_email_signature (1)

Sara and Louie came to somewhereto_ to gain opportunities to speak at huge events and increase their skills at public speaking and rap entertaining. The both of them compered a huge event at the Sage Gateshead called ‘The Power Tour’ where there were 150 people in attendance. The Power Tour took place throughout last week and featured young people’s bands performing at venues across the country. The pair had a great rapport with the audience and their performance was applauded from all angles and the crowd found their humour extremely entertaining.

Louie was also presented with the opportunity to perform his solo act of beat boxing and rapping which is part of his somewhereto_ project. Louie loved it and this was his second rap performance at huge public events through somewhereto_. This was after he was also given an opportunity to be part of the grand opening event. Louie wrote a rap to music by Gateshead’s Voltage Volunteers which acted as the keynote opening speech for the Juice festival. Louie and the musicians performed the track at the grand opening at the Sage Gateshead on Tuesday 18th October.

Maddie Otter is a member of the North East Youth Network and now found space with the somewhereto_ programme. She has had a brilliant article published in Live Magazine and we thought we would share it with you. Not only does the article highlight the positive activities of youth programmes and how useful they are to young people, but really shows how talented this young person is. Enjoy.

NEYN Meeting

NEYN Meeting - web_001

The North East Youth Network steering group had their third meeting last Wednesday 24th August at the RYWU offices.

The day started with a focused meeting with some of the members as they are undertaking The British Youth Council (BYC) Youth Voice Award. Later on in the day this meeting branched out to a bigger Network meeting.
The group then identified key issues which young people are facing and highlighted four which they would like to develop into regional projects. The Network’s young people split into four groups and pitched their project plans to members of the RYWU staff team in a Dragons Den style at the end of the session.
See more photos here
There was great discussion in all groups and really interesting points raised. Watch this space for more work from the Network coming soon.
If you would like to be involved in the North East Youth Network to have a chance to get your voice heard on issues important to you contact Neil Burke on
