Doing it the Brathay way!

In March myself (Martin) and Laura took young people from the Truth about Youth group, on a residential weekend to Brathay in Cumbria. We had spent the previous 2 months visiting groups in Tyne and Wear to recruit the young people, so the residential was a chance for them to get to know each other as well as me and Laura.

The group of 14 young people were aged from 11 to 22, despite the age range they bonded really well. The group participated in a number of activities and were all designed to improve their team work skills. They were  professionally delivered by the team of instructors at Brathay, activities included a high ropes course and whale boating. Laura and I also delivered an introduction session on Truth about Youth as a way of launching the work.

The weekend was a great success; young people really enjoyed the weekend, got on very well and formed a group bond. The weekend was very successful as Laura and I also established a relationship with the young people and was a great way to launch the group.
