Generation 2012 is an exciting new Legacy Trust UK funding programme which forms part of the North East’s plans for the 2012 Cultural Olympiad (the cultural programme inspired by the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games). This programme provides the opportunity for North East cultural organisations and young people to work together to develop high quality, aspirational projects which celebrate the London 2012 Olympic & Paralympic Games.
The collaboration within the Generation 2012 programme will develop a more responsive and young person-focussed cultural sector. The challenge for this programme is to bring about a positive shift in the way that children and young people collaborate and work with the North East’s cultural sector.
The sector will become more responsive to, and reflective of, young people and their cultural needs and interests. The aim is for the cultural sector to play a greater part in the lives of children and young people by increasing their self-awareness, creative opportunities for self-expression and enabling
them to develop their own ideas of personal and regional identity.
Generation 2012 will commission a broad and diverse range of up to 12 aspirational and significant projects which demonstrate new ways of developing activities and projects between the cultural sector and young people. We are looking for a mix of large, high impact projects with a regional or sub regional vision (sub regions are Durham, Northumberland, Tees Valley and Tyne & Wear). Indoors or outdoors, the region is your playground – and we welcome ideas that work in your cultural buildings as well as in your local parks, riversides and bridges, you name it!
You can download the information pack and expression of interest forms here. The pack will give you further information about the programme, what will be commissioned and how you can be involved.
You can be part of creating a lasting legacy from 2012 for the North East.
