Strategic

As a strategic development body supporting youth services and youth work in the North East, the Regional Youth Work Unit is regularly asked to become involved in a wide variety of initiatives relating to work with young people. Where possible and appropriate the staff of the Unit will seek to support such initiatives, although given the small nature of the team this is not always possible. The level of support and co-ordination provided to the group will be related to the needs and requirements of the group, and where possible, workers from the field will be encouraged to take a lead in the direct running of the group.

The following are amongst the most well established of the groups supported by the Regional Youth Work Unit:

Regional Visioning Group – consists of colleagues from the statutory and voluntary youth sector, Connexions, Government Office, Regional Assembly and the Youth Justice Board. The group has been established to develop a vision for youth services in the North East over the next 10 – 15 years. More Information: click here

Regional Quality Group – brings together the voluntary and statutory sector to explore quality issues in youth work. The group has been co-ordinated to share practice and develop methods of improving the quality of youth work in the Regional Youth Work Unit. More information: click here

North East Detached Youth Work Forum – a group of practitioners from around the region who are engaged in detached youth work. The group has strong links with the National Federation of Detached Youth Work. More information: click here

The North East Youth Research Group - consists of colleagues from the Universities of Newcastle, Northumbria, Durham
, Sunderland and Teeside as well as a representative from the Unit. More information: click here
