(formerly known as NERYA)
The first regional participation group, North East Regional Youth Assembly, was established in 1998 to ensure that young people in the region could have a voice. The group has now evolved into Youth Action North East, which supports campaign groups across the North East. It supports and promotes the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) especially Article 12 that says all children and young people should be involved in making decisions where they affect their lives.
The groups is open to all young people based in the North East – young people don’t need to be elected or voted into the group because the young people involved decided this was wrong and YANE should be a forum that is open to new people and new ideas. Usually young people get involved through youth workers in their local area, but there are also opportunities to get involved in some of the sub-groups that YANE co-ordinates.
